Wetsuit recommendations for surfing South Australia during autumn or spring? Autumn from March to May still has relatively warmer water temps but the air will be getting colder. Reverse for Spring, with September through November having cold water with air temps slowly warming up. We recommend a lighter weight steamer for these shoulder seasons, and we also like a pair of booties in the mix this time of year.

Our top autumn/spring picks for the steamer quiver are our Bahia 3/2mm, or Psychotech 3/2mm.

TheBahia 3/2mm has glued and blindstitched seams, MeshSkin chest/back panels and SuperGrill liner, and comes in options of chest or back zip, with our seasonal Surf Series print, or a timeless all-black colourway. It looks insane, is killer value and most importantly is toasty warm thanks to the internal liner.

ThePsychotech 3/2mm has fluid weld sealed seams, hydrophobic outer fabric, Air Firewall Smoothskin chest/back panels, and TBFirewall liner. It’s top of the line, highest level performance, flexibility and warmth.

For the less frequent surfer, the Reactor II 3/2mm steamer is a good value for money option featuring wind-resistant Smoothskin 3mm neoprene on the chest and back, and Ultraflex neoprene on the arms and legs, but doesn’t have the same level of stretch and warmth of higher-end wetsuits.

As the water temps can remain pretty dam cold during springtime, you might also want to consider bumping these recommendations up to 4/3mm if you are buying for spring, and don't already have a winter suit.

With water temps still being cold in these variable seasons, we recommend the Ninja 3mm boot to keep the toes nimble!

It just depends on what’s most important to you - warmth / flexibility / price.

Check out the winter or summer recommendations for further suggestionsif you are leaning towards colder or warmer conditions.

"When the water temperature starts to change between the hot/cold seasons, I prefer to use a wetsuit that is versatile for every weather condition. I choose to wear the Hyperfreak 4/3mm or the 3/2mm version. Both have amazing flexibility and keep you warm. I also like to have a set of ninja 3 mm boots on too which match the Hyperfreak perfectly - warm and flexible!"
